Tiling Vienna where the joint is right because the substrate is right.

Tiling Vienna: from the building contractor that does the work — not from an agent.

Tiling Vienna: tiling in Vienna costs 55 to 110 euros per square metre. Wall tiles €55–95/m², floor in thin bed €65–110/m², large format from €90/m², natural stone €110–180/m². Waterproofing in wet areas, uncoupling and substrate preparation come on top.

Tiling in Vienna costs €55 to €110 per square metre for labour, excluding material. Wall tiles in standard format cost €55 to €95/m², floor tiles in thin bed €65 to €110/m². Large formats from 60 × 120 cm cost €90 to €150/m², because the substrate has to be absolutely level and the buttering-floating method is used. In wet areas, bonded waterproofing according to ÖNORM B 3407 adds €38 to €55/m² – it is not an option, but what makes the bathroom watertight.

The substrate decides the result

A tile is only as good as what it lies on. These five checks come before every installation – they take half an hour and prevent the most expensive mistakes.

  • Flatness. According to ÖNORM DIN 18202, around 3 mm per metre is permissible. For large formats from 60 × 120 cm that is not enough – there we level to 2 mm, otherwise lippage occurs that you can feel with bare feet.
  • Residual moisture in the screed. Cement screed needs four to six weeks, anhydrite three to four. It is measured with the CM device, not estimated. Tiling too early means cracks and hollow spots.
  • Load-bearing capacity. The substrate is tapped. Whatever sounds hollow comes out – even if it looks like more work.
  • Absorbency. Highly absorbent substrates need a deep primer, smooth ones a bonding agent. Without the right primer, no adhesive bonds permanently.
  • Movement. Timber beam floors, fresh screed with residual moisture and terraces move. There an uncoupling mat goes between substrate and tile, €18 to €38/m².
The most common mistake in Viennese bathrooms: tiles on tiles. It saves a day but costs build-up height, hides the condition underneath and turns every search for the cause of the next water damage into guesswork. We advise against it – except for a purely cosmetic refresh in a bathroom that is demonstrably watertight.

Format, joint, pattern

Format

Large format looks calm and has fewer joints, but requires a very level substrate and two tilers with a suction lifter. From 60 × 120 cm, buttering-floating is part of it – adhesive on both the substrate and the back of the tile – otherwise hollow spots form that later lead to cracks. With large format, allow 15 to 20 % waste instead of the usual 10.

Laying pattern

PatternSurchargeWasteEffect
Grid pattern, straight–10 %calm, standard, cheapest option
Half offset+5–12 %10–12 %critical with large format, lippage
Third offset+8–15 %12 %recommended for plank formats
Diagonal+15–25 %15–20 %makes rooms look larger, a lot of waste
Herringbone+35–60 %15–25 %laborious, high-quality look

Joint

Narrow joints from 2 mm look high-quality but require calibrated tiles – this is the case with porcelain stoneware, not always with natural stone. A good cement grout with fungicide is enough for most bathrooms. Epoxy grouts are practically indestructible and stain-resistant, but cost €22 to €45/m² more and do not forgive rework. Silicone belongs exclusively in movement joints: corners, floor-to-wall junction, connection to the bath and shower tray – it is a maintenance joint, not a waterproofing component.

Slip resistance

AreaRecommendationReason

Stairwell, commercialR10 to R11Footwear, wet from outside

Too much slip resistance is no gain: R12 in a residential bathroom is hardly cleanable, because the rough surface holds soap residue.

Tiles in the bathroom: the waterproofing is the component, not the tile

This is the most important sentence on this page. A tile is water-repellent, but the joint is not, and the adhesive certainly is not. A bathroom becomes watertight through the bonded waterproofing underneath, carried out according to ÖNORM B 3407.

Where waterproofing goesThe entire floor area, walls in the splash zone at least 20 cm above the outlet, in the shower the entire wall area up to 2 m high, behind the bath up to 30 cm above the rim.
With whatTwo-layer sealing slurry or liquid membrane, each layer in a different colour so that it is visible that two coats were actually applied.
The detailsSealing tape in every corner and every wall-floor junction, a collar around every pipe and every drain. This is where damage occurs, not in the surface.
The level-access showerFalls of 1.5 to 2 % to the drain, formed in the screed or with a sloped element. The drain is integrated into the waterproofing, not inserted afterwards.

Tilers in Vienna: prices and services

Anyone looking for a tiler in Vienna usually wants to know two things: what the square metre costs and when someone can come. Both depend less on the district than on the substrate and the tile format.

ServiceNet price per m²Remark
Tiling, standard format up to 60×6055–80 €straight bond, level substrate
Large format from 80×80 and slabs85–140 €two people, suction lifter, higher flatness requirement
Mosaic and small format95–160 €considerably more time per area
Removing and disposing of old tiles18–32 €including removal, tonnage separate
Filling and priming the substrate12–28 €depending on condition, almost always needed in old buildings
Bonded waterproofing in wet areas22–38 €mandatory in the shower and splash zone
Renewing silicone joints€9–16/rmwear part, due every 5 to 10 years
The price per square metre alone says nothing. Two quotes at 65 and 95 euros can end up with the same bill – if filling, priming and waterproofing are charged separately in the cheap one and included in the expensive one. They only become comparable when the same items appear in both quotes. That is why we always list substrate preparation and waterproofing as separate lines, even if that makes it look more expensive at first glance.

Having tiles laid with us means: site visit, measurement, fixed price, date. We bundle small areas with other jobs nearby, so the lead time for a single bathroom is sometimes longer than for a whole apartment.

Laying large tiles: what is different

Formats from 80×80 centimetres and slabs up to 120×240 have been the standard request for several years. They look calmer, have fewer joints – and do not forgive an uneven substrate.

PointStandard formatLarge format
Flatness of the substratetolerance per standard is usually enoughalmost always has to be refilled
Adhesive applicationone sidebuttering-floating, both sides, full contact
Bondhalf bond possiblethird offset at most, otherwise the edges rock
Cuttingwet sawrail system, holes with a cutter
Staffone persontwo people with a suction lifter
Waste5–8 %10–15 %, more with patterns
With large format, the work is in the substrate, not in the laying. A 120 by 60 centimetre slab shows every wave in the floor as an edge at the joint – and that edge cannot be removed afterwards. That is why preparation for large formats often costs more than the laying itself. Anyone who saves there sees the result every day in raking light.

In old-building apartments there is another factor: the timber beam floor moves. Large slabs need an uncoupling mat there, otherwise the joints crack in the first winter. That is not a surcharge at will, but a question of the floor build-up – we check it during the site visit.

Tiles in Viennese old buildings

Timber beam floors move

Over 60 % of Viennese old-building apartments have timber beam floors. They move with temperature and season. Tiles laid directly on them crack. The right approach is dry screed as a load-distributing layer plus an uncoupling mat – then the covering holds. The total weight stays at 40 to 50 kg/m² instead of 100 with wet screed.

Crooked walls

Deviations of 5 to 15 cm over three metres are normal. With large-format wall tiles this is immediately noticeable. Either the wall is filled beforehand or levelled with a furring wall – both cost space and belong in the quote before the tile is bought.

Old build-ups

Under old bathroom tiles there are bitumen coatings, mastic asphalt screed, slag fill or several layers of tiles on top of each other. What comes to light when they are removed determines the build-up above – which is why the quote contains an assumed quantity with a unit price for additional work.

Build-up height in the bathroom

Waterproofing, adhesive and tile need 1.5 to 2.5 cm, a new screed with falls considerably more. If the bathroom door no longer opens afterwards or a step to the hallway appears, this calculation was not made.

Process

1 · Measurement and substrate checkMeasure flatness, tap, check residual moisture, record build-up heights. This shows what needs to be prepared.
2 · RemovalRemove old tiles, expose the substrate, dispose of rubble separated by type. Protection of doors, floors and routes.
3 · Preparing the substrateRepair, level, prime. For moving substrates, an uncoupling mat.
4 · WaterproofingTwo layers with sealing tapes and collars, observing the drying time between layers. Photo documentation.
5 · Setting out the layoutWhere the first tile sits, where the cuts end. This decision determines whether narrow strips or clean surfaces are visible in the end – it is made together.
6 · LayingWall before floor, for large format with buttering-floating and two people. Spacers and a levelling system for equal heights at the edges.
7 · GroutingAfter the adhesive has cured, usually the following day. Work in the grout, remove the haze.
8 · Silicone and trimsAll movement joints, corners and connections. Last, cleanly smoothed.
9 · AcceptanceInspection in daylight with raking light, because only then does lippage become visible. Acceptance record and photo documentation of the waterproofing.

The ten most common mistakes

  • No waterproofing, only tile adhesive. The most common finding when old bathrooms are stripped – and the cause of most water damage.
  • Silicone mistaken for waterproofing. Silicone is a maintenance joint with a service life of five to eight years, not a component.
  • Laid too early on fresh screed. Without CM measurement, the tiles crack as soon as the screed continues to dry.
  • Large format in thin bed without buttering-floating. Hollow spots under the tile that lead to breakage at the first impact.
  • Half offset with long formats. From 60 cm in length, noticeable lippage occurs in the middle – offset by a third at most.
  • No movement joints. From about 20 m² of continuous area and at every change of material, a joint is needed.
  • Falls in the shower forgotten. Water stands, joints grow algae, the drain does not draw.
  • Natural stone with the wrong adhesive. Marble discolours with moisture-rich cement adhesives – a white rapid-setting cement adhesive belongs there.
  • Tiles on tiles in the bathroom. Hides the condition of the old waterproofing and costs build-up height.
  • Started without a sample layout. Tile colour looks different on the sample board than on 30 m² – and afterwards nothing can be changed.

How to check a tiling quote

Is the waterproofing listed as a separate item? With ÖNORM B 3407, area, product and sealing tapes. If it is missing, the quote is not cheaper but incomplete.
Is the substrate covered?Levelling, primer, uncoupling – with assumed quantities and unit prices for additional work.
Which format, which laying pattern? The surcharge for diagonal or herringbone is considerable and should be stated.
Who supplies the material? The client or the company. For 34 m² that makes a difference of €850 to €3,060.
How much waste is included?10 % for straight patterns, 15 to 25 % for diagonal and large format. Anyone who orders too little ends up with a different batch in a slightly different shade.
Falls and drain in the shower? As a separate item, not as an ancillary service.
Do I get photos of the waterproofing? The only way to prove later what lies under the tiles.
Disposal with proof?Old tiles are construction waste requiring proof of disposal; if asbestos-containing adhesive is suspected, with sampling.

Who we tile for

Private clients

Bathroom, kitchen, hallway – usually as part of a renovation. You buy the material yourself; we supply the list with quantities and waste.

Property management companies

Bathrooms in rental apartments between two tenancies, stairwells, laundry rooms. Documented and on schedule.

Developers

Tiling work for entire storeys as a subcontract, with our own foreman and measurement according to ÖNORM.

Commercial

Restaurants, medical practices, kitchens with increased requirements for slip resistance and cleanability.

When you do not need us

If only a few tiles are cracked and replacement tiles are available, a tradesman replaces them in two hours. If only the joints look unsightly, joint renovation is enough – scrape out, regrout, €25 to €55/m². And if the bathroom is being renovated anyway, the tiling belongs in that project and should not be awarded as a separate job; see bathroom renovation Vienna. We tell you this at the site visit, even if it makes the job smaller for us.

Price per square metre or hourly rate: how tilers charge in Austria

Two methods of charging for tiling work have become established in Austria. For continuous areas – a bathroom, a kitchen, a hallway – charging is per square metre, separated by wall, floor, format and ancillary services such as waterproofing or silicone joints. For small jobs where no area can sensibly be measured, such as replacing individual tiles or reworking a connection, charging is by the hour, known as time-and-material work.

For you as the client, the price per square metre is almost always the better basis, because the risk of slow work lies with the company and not with you. An hourly rate alone says little: whether someone needs one or two days for 10 m² of wall depends on the format, the substrate and experience.

Why prices in Vienna are often higher than in the countryside has practical reasons: transporting material in old buildings without a lift, finding parking and loading zones, protecting the stairwell and floors in an occupied building. We list such items openly in the quote so that it is clear what is being paid for. The guide prices for the tiling itself are in the price table above.

Large tiles in Gründerzeit apartment buildings: Währing, Hernals, Ottakring and Penzing

In the districts west of the Gürtel – the 18th (1180), 17th (1170), 16th (1160) and 14th district (1140) – many apartments are in apartment buildings from around 1900. Anyone who wants large tiles laid there runs into a problem that has nothing to do with laying: transport. A slab in 120 × 240 cm format has to go up the stairwell flat or on edge, and many of these buildings have no lift or only a very small one fitted later.

That is why, before choosing the material, we measure the narrowest point along the way: building entrance, half landing, apartment door, corridor width. It often turns out that 120 × 120 cm is still easily possible, but the very large format only by cutting it into pieces or not at all. Better to clarify this before the tiles are ordered.

Then there is the substrate. On the upper floors of these buildings there are usually timber beam floors that move slightly. Large format on such a floor needs a rigid dry screed and uncoupling; what the build-up looks like is described on the page screed laying, and if the floor itself is weakened, timber beam floor renovation.

Worked example: what a square metre in a small bathroom really costs

A typical Viennese old-building bathroom has about 5 m² of floor area and 22 m² of wall area up to the ceiling. With the net guide prices on this page, material supplied by the client, the picture is roughly as follows:

ItemQuantityGuide value net
Removing and disposing of old tiles27 m²490–860 €
Filling and priming the substrate27 m²320–760 €
Bonded waterproofing floor and showerapprox. 12 m²260–460 €
Wall tiles, standard format22 m²1.210–2.090 €
Floor tiles in thin bed5 m²330–550 €

Together that is about €2,600 to €4,700 for labour, i.e. around €95 to €175 per tiled square metre – considerably more than the pure laying price. The difference lies in removal, preparation and waterproofing, which make up a large share in a small bathroom. If plumbing and sanitary fittings are added, it becomes a bathroom renovation; for that there is the page bathroom renovation Vienna.

Frequently asked questions about tiling in Vienna

What does tiling cost per square metre in Vienna?
€55 to €110 for labour without material. Wall tiles €55–95/m², floor in thin bed €65–110/m², large format from €90/m², natural stone €110–180/m². Substrate preparation and waterproofing come on top.
What does it cost to tile a bathroom?
For a 6 m² old-building bathroom with floor and walls up to 2.20 m, around €6,960 net for labour – including removing the old tiles, waterproofing, falls and grouting. The material adds €850 to €3,060.
What does the material cost?
€25 to €90 per m² for porcelain stoneware, €60 to €180 for natural stone, €40 to €140 for mosaic. Plus adhesive, grout and trims at €8 to €20/m². Most clients buy it themselves – we supply the quantity list including waste.
How much waste do I need to allow for?
10 % for straight laying, 12 % for third offset, 15 to 25 % for diagonal, herringbone and large format. Better to order one pack too many: repeat orders come from a different batch and differ in shade.
Why is large format more expensive?
Because the substrate must be level to 2 mm, the buttering-floating method is used and two tilers with a suction lifter are needed. In return there are fewer joints and a calmer surface.
What is buttering-floating?
Adhesive is applied both to the substrate and to the back of the tile. Only then does a full-surface bed without hollow spots form with large formats. Hollow spots lead to cracks as soon as someone knocks a hard object against them.
Which tile size suits a small bathroom?
Contrary to the rule of thumb, larger formats look calmer in small bathrooms because there is less of a joint grid. The limit is the waste: in a 5 m² bathroom with many corners, a 120 cm format creates a lot of offcuts. 60 × 60 cm is usually the best compromise.
What slip resistance do I need?
Living room and kitchen R9, bathroom floor R9 to R10, level-access shower R10 with assessment group B, terrace R10 to R11. Higher is not better: R12 in a residential bathroom is hardly cleanable, because the rough surface holds soap residue.
What do assessment groups A, B, C mean?
They describe slip resistance in wet barefoot areas. A for changing rooms, B for showers and pool surrounds, C for inclined surfaces and pool entries. For a level-access shower, B is the sensible value.
Do I really need waterproofing?
Yes. Tiles and adhesive are not watertight, and joints certainly are not. Bonded waterproofing according to ÖNORM B 3407 is the component that makes a bathroom watertight – €38 to €55/m². Leaving it out is a false economy.
How high up the wall must waterproofing go?
In the splash zone at least 20 cm above the outlet, in the shower the entire wall area up to about 2 m, behind the bath up to 30 cm above the rim. The floor always over its full area.
Why two layers in different colours?
So that the photos show that two coats of waterproofing were actually applied. Single-layer waterproofing has gaps at transitions – the second layer in a different colour makes this verifiable.
Is silicone waterproofing?
No. Silicone is a maintenance joint with a service life of five to eight years and belongs in movement joints: corners, floor-wall junction, connection to the bath and shower tray. Anyone who uses it as waterproofing will have damage within a few years.
How often does silicone need renewing?
Every five to eight years, earlier if it discolours or mould forms. Renewal costs €8 to €18 per running metre and is normal maintenance, not a defect.
What to do about mould in silicone joints?
Remove the silicone completely, dry and clean the substrate, re-seal with fungicidal sanitary silicone. Painting over it or applying new silicone over the old does not work – the mould sits under the joint.
How is a level-access shower built?
Falls of 1.5 to 2 % to the drain, formed in the screed or with a sloped element. The drain is integrated into the waterproofing, not inserted afterwards. Additional cost €450 to €1,200, depending on drain type and build-up height.
How much build-up height does tiling need?
Waterproofing, adhesive and tile together 1.5 to 2.5 cm. With a new sloped screed, 4 to 8 cm are added. This calculation decides whether the bathroom door still opens afterwards.
Can tiles be laid on tiles?
Technically yes, on a load-bearing, level and tapped substrate with a bonding agent. In the bathroom we advise against it: the condition of the old waterproofing remains unknown, and in the event of water damage the search for the cause becomes guesswork. For a purely cosmetic refresh in a bathroom that is demonstrably watertight, it is acceptable.
Can I tile on timber beam floors?
Not directly. A load-distributing layer – dry screed – plus an uncoupling mat is needed. Timber floors move with the seasons; without uncoupling, the tiles crack. The build-up stays at 40 to 50 kg/m² instead of 100 with wet screed.
What is an uncoupling mat?
An intermediate layer that absorbs movements of the substrate before they reach the tile. €18 to €38/m². Needed on timber substrates, fresh screed with residual moisture, terraces and wherever the substrate moves.
When is a screed ready for covering?
Cement screed after four to six weeks, anhydrite after three to four, dry screed immediately. What counts is the residual moisture measured with the CM device, not the calendar. Laid too early, the covering cracks as the screed continues to dry.
Where do movement joints belong?
From about 20 m² of continuous area, at every change of material, above joints in the screed, at doorways and at junctions with rising building elements. If they are missing, the covering cracks exactly where the stress is.
Cement grout or epoxy grout?
A good cement grout with fungicide is enough for most bathrooms. Epoxy is stain-resistant and practically indestructible, costs €22 to €45/m² more, but does not forgive rework and is harder to remove. Useful in commercial kitchens and heavily used areas.
What joint width is right?
With calibrated porcelain stoneware from 2 mm; 2 to 3 mm is usual. With natural stone and uncalibrated tiles more, because the dimensions vary. Below 2 mm it becomes critical because the joint can no longer absorb movement.
What is different about laying natural stone?
Marble and light limestone discolour with moisture-rich cement adhesives – a white rapid-setting cement adhesive belongs there. In addition, natural stone needs an impregnation against stains, which is renewed every few years.
Can porcelain stoneware look like wood?
Yes, plank formats in wood look are technically mature and better suited to bathrooms and underfloor heating than real wood. What matters is the offset: a third at most, otherwise noticeable lippage occurs with long formats.
Do tiles work with underfloor heating?
Very well – tiles conduct heat better than any other covering. What matters is the heating-up protocol before laying, a suitable flexible adhesive and movement joints in larger areas.
How long does it take to tile a bathroom?
For 6 m² of floor and 28 m² of wall, 5 to 8 working days: removal, substrate, waterproofing with drying times, laying, grouting, silicone. The limiting factor is the drying times, not the laying itself.
Can I use the bathroom in the meantime?
No. During tiling work the bathroom is closed. In multi-occupancy buildings, that is why we work quickly and in one go rather than in stages.
Who decides how the tiles are aligned?
We decide that together before starting. The layout determines whether whole tiles or narrow strips sit at visible edges. This decision cannot be corrected later and is more important than most people assume.
How are external corners finished?
Either with an edge trim in aluminium or stainless steel, €8 to €22 per running metre, or with a mitre cut, €18 to €40/rm. The mitre cut looks higher-quality but requires precise work and is not suitable for every tile.
What happens to the old tiles?
Removal and disposal, €22 to €48/m². Old tile adhesives up to 1990 may contain asbestos – if suspected, samples are taken before starting. Disposal is carried out with proof.
Can individual damaged tiles be replaced?
Yes, if replacement tiles from the same batch are available. That is why: keep half a pack after every installation. Without replacements from the same batch, a colour-matched replacement is practically impossible.
What does joint renovation cost?
€25 to €55/m² – scrape out the joints, clean, regrout. Worthwhile if the tiles are firmly bonded and only the joints are unsightly or porous. It does not help with tiles that sound hollow.
Can tiles be painted over?
With special tile paints, yes, but durability is limited and problematic in wet areas. We do not offer it – no coating that is not designed for it lasts in a shower.
What is different about tiling terraces and balconies?
Frost-resistant porcelain stoneware 2 cm thick, falls of at least 1.5 %, waterproofing according to ÖNORM B 3691, edge profile with drip edge and uncoupling. Alternatively, laying on pedestals – then the water drains away under the covering.
Why do tiles come loose on the balcony?
Almost always because water gets under the covering and bursts it when it freezes. The causes are missing waterproofing, missing falls or a missing drip edge. See balcony renovation Vienna.
Do you also lay mosaic?
Yes, €95 to €180/m². Mosaic has a high proportion of cuts and joints and requires a very level substrate, because every unevenness becomes visible. In shower niches and as an accent area it is a good choice.
Do you also do kitchen splashbacks?
Yes. Coordination with the kitchen fitter is important: the height of the splashback, socket positions and the connection to the worktop must be fixed before laying.
How clean does the apartment stay?
Removing tiles creates a lot of dust. We work with a dust protection wall, airlock and extraction, cover routes and do a rough clean daily. Final cleaning of the site is included in the price.
Do I get documentation?
Yes: photos of the prepared substrate and of every waterproofed area before tiling, with date. That is the only proof of what lies under the tiles – towards insurers, property management or a later buyer.
Tiling: what warranty is there?
Three years under § 933 ABGB on the laying and the waterproofing. Not covered are silicone joints – they are maintenance items – and damage caused by movements in the building that were not recognisable at the site visit.
Tiling: who carries out the work?
Tilers are a regulated craft under § 94 no. 38 GewO. The work is carried out within the scope of our trade licences or by authorised partner companies named in the quote. Plumbing and electrical work in the bathroom is carried out by licensed partner companies named in the quote.
Tiling: is there a fixed price?
Yes, after measurement and substrate check, as a bill of quantities with areas, substrate preparation, waterproofing, laying pattern and explicit exclusions. It includes a unit price for additional substrate quantities.
Tiling: do you also do small areas?
From about 8 m² it makes economic sense. Below that, travel, set-up and protection carry a disproportionate share of the price – we say so openly instead of writing an expensive quote.
Tiling: how quickly do I get a quote?
Measurement within five working days throughout Vienna, quote within two working days after that. For small areas, good photos and dimensions are often enough.
Do you tile throughout Vienna?
Yes, in all 23 districts. For old-building apartments without a lift, we include material transport in the calculation.
Do tilers charge by the hour or by the square metre?
For whole areas by the square metre, separated by wall, floor and format; for small jobs by the hour. The price per square metre is usually easier for clients to plan, because working time is then the company's risk. Make sure that preparation, waterproofing and silicone joints are listed as separate items in the quote.
How do large-format slabs get into an old-building apartment without a lift?
Via the stairwell, carried by two or three people with carrying straps or a suction lifter. What matters is the narrowest point, usually the half landing or the apartment door. This is measured before ordering. If the desired format does not fit, a somewhat smaller large format is the usual solution rather than cutting slabs on site.
Why is the price per square metre higher in a small bathroom than in a large one?
Because corners, cuts, pipe penetrations and connections are closer together in a small room, and travel and site set-up are spread over a small area. In addition, removal and waterproofing make up a large share in the bathroom. A large living room with a continuous floor area is almost always cheaper per square metre.

Yes, that is common — tiles in the bathroom, wood or vinyl in the living area. What matters is a clean transition with a suitable profile strip and matching build-up heights so that no trip edge is created. This belongs in the planning.

Do I get a warranty on the tiling work?

Yes, the statutory warranty of 3 years under § 933 ABGB on the workmanship. Manufacturers give their own guarantees on the material. Proper care and intact silicone joints are important for the warranty.

Who exactly lays the tiles for you?

A licensed tiler under § 94 no. 38 GewO, our permanent partner company. We prepare the substrate, waterproof and coordinate the other trades; the tiles themselves are laid by the authorised company, which we name to you before the contract is signed.

What is the most common expensive surprise when tiling?

A substrate that is worse than expected — uneven, damp or cracked. Then preparation is added that was not visible beforehand. Because we work with a fixed price after measurement, we consult you before additional costs arise; extras only for additionally commissioned work.

What does a tiler in Vienna cost per square metre?
€55 to €80/m² for standard formats, €85 to €140/m² for large format from 80×80, €95 to €160/m² for mosaic. On top come substrate preparation at €12 to €28/m² and, in wet areas, waterproofing at €22 to €38/m².
What does it cost to have large tiles laid?
€85 to €140/m². The surcharge compared with standard formats does not arise from the laying but from the substrate: large formats need an almost level surface, otherwise the edges protrude at the joints. Also allow 10 to 15 % waste instead of 5 to 8 %.
Do you also tile in my district?
We work in all 23 districts of Vienna. For individual rooms we bundle jobs in the same area, so the lead time for a small area can be longer than for a whole apartment.
