Painting work Vienna walls that still look good after ten years.

Painting work Vienna: from the construction company that does the work — not from an agent.

Painting work Vienna: painting in Vienna costs 12 to 28 euros per square metre of wall area. Simple coat €12–18/m², with filling and preparation €18–28/m², staircase €22–45/m². Exterior facade €18–38/m² plus scaffolding. Net, 2026 guide values.

Painting work in Vienna costs €12 to €28 per square metre of wall area. A simple coat on a good substrate costs €12 to €18/m², with filling, priming and repairs €18 to €28/m². A 70 m² apartment with around 200 m² of wall and ceiling area therefore costs €2,400 to €5,600 net. The price is not decided by the paint but by the substrate: what has to be filled, primed and repaired accounts for up to two thirds of the effort. Smaller touch-ups and individual rooms are handled through our Small Repairs.

Roof coating and exterior painting

A roof coating is not cosmetics but corrosion protection. On metal roofs and galvanised surfaces the coating lasts ten to fifteen years, after which rust starts at the edges. On tiles, on the other hand, a coating achieves little — there the covering itself has usually reached the end of its life.

AreaBuild-upNet price

Facade with cracksadditionally reinforcing, repairing, skim-coating€24–32/m²
Exterior timber, fences and claddingsanding, primer, glaze or opaque paint€22–38/m²

On top of the prices per square metre comes access. Up to about eight metres we work from scaffolding; above that and where access is poor, by rope access — for a single gable wall this is often cheaper than scaffolding for two days.

The season also plays a role: exterior painting needs at least five degrees and dry surfaces throughout the entire drying time. Between November and March we would therefore rather cancel exterior appointments than push them through in borderline weather.

Why the substrate determines the price

Paint costs little. Two thirds of the effort lies in what happens beforehand. These six substrates are the ones we find most often in Viennese period buildings.

  • Old distemper. Common in Gründerzeit buildings up to the 1960s. It cannot be painted over – modern emulsion paint dissolves it and peels off together with the substrate. It has to be washed off, €8 to €18/m².
  • Oil paint on the dado. Common in staircases and kitchens. It has to be sanded and treated with a bonding primer, otherwise nothing will adhere to it.
  • Woodchip wallpaper in several layers. Three to five layers on top of each other are not unusual. Removal costs €6 to €14/m², but is almost always the right thing to do.
  • Nicotine and soot. Without an insulating primer, the discolouration bleeds through any top coat – even through three coats. Blocking primer €8 to €18/m².
  • Damp and water stains. First eliminate the cause, then let it dry, then seal. Anyone who paints over a damp patch will see it again in four weeks.
  • Cracks in period-building plaster. Hairline cracks are filled over, moving cracks are reinforced with mesh tape. The difference decides whether the crack comes back.
The most common mistake in Viennese period apartments: emulsion paint on old distemper. The result looks good for two weeks and then peels off over large areas – together with the substrate. Anyone who gets a price per square metre below €12 should ask what preparatory work is included.

Which paint for what

Paint typeMaterial price per m²PropertySuitable for
Emulsion paint0,60–1,80 €inexpensive, good coverage, film-formingLiving spaces on modern substrates
Silicate paint1,80–4,00 €mineral, highly vapour-permeable, mould-inhibitingPeriod buildings, rooms exposed to moisture, basements
Lime paint1,50–3,50 €highly alkaline, regulates humidityhistoric rooms, vaults
Silicone resin paint2,20–4,50 €water-repellent and vapour-permeableFacades, bathroom, kitchen
Latex paint1,80–4,00 €washable, satin finishStaircase, commercial premises, children’s room
Clay paint3,00–6,00 €regulates room humidity, mattBedrooms, ecological fit-out

In Viennese period buildings the same rule applies as on the facade: the more the substrate is exposed to moisture, the more vapour-permeable the paint must be. Silicate paint on old lime plaster is almost always the better choice than emulsion – it silicifies with the substrate instead of forming a film.

Opacity and wet scrub resistance: the two figures that count

Every paint tin shows two classes. Opacity 1 to 4, where 1 is the best – a class 1 paint covers in two coats, a class 3 paint needs three. Wet scrub resistance 1 to 5, where 1 is scrub-resistant and 5 not washable. For living spaces class 2 to 3 makes sense, for staircases and kitchens class 1 to 2. A cheap class 3 paint with three coats ends up more expensive than a good one with two.

Trowel techniques and decorative surfaces

Smooth filling Q3 and Q4

The surface is filled and sanded over its entire area so that no lap marks remain visible. Q3 for satin paints, Q4 for gloss paint and rooms with grazing light through large windows. Surcharge €8 to €28/m².

Lime plaster look

Applied in several layers, lively across the surface, matt and vapour-permeable. €60 to €140/m². Suits period rooms well and is compatible with historic plaster.

Stucco Veneziano

Three to five wafer-thin layers of lime filler, smoothed and waxed, with a sense of depth. €120 to €260/m². Demanding craftsmanship and not sensible in every room – usually one wall as an accent.

Concrete look and microcement

Seamless surface, also for bathrooms and kitchens. €90 to €200/m². Needs an absolutely flat, crack-free substrate – in period buildings that means preparatory work.

Painting in Viennese period buildings: what matters

Stucco

Stucco ceilings and mouldings are the reason why period apartments are so sought-after. When painting, they are not simply rolled over: profiles are traced with a brush, edges cut in cleanly, and profiles painted over many times are exposed if necessary. €18 to €45 per linear metre for painting, €90 to €260/lin. m for cleaning and supplementing missing parts.

Ceiling heights over three metres

Viennese Gründerzeit apartments have 3.20 to 4.00 m. That means scaffolding or platforms instead of ladders, longer working hours and more wall area per square metre of floor. For the same apartment size, there is 30 to 50% more area to paint than in a new build.

Box-type windows

A box-type window has two sash levels, reveals and often twenty layers of paint. Painting the inside takes considerably longer than with a modern window: €140 to €420 per window, depending on condition and whether it has to be stripped.

Dippelboden and dust

Sanding creates fine dust that settles throughout the apartment. We work with extraction on the sander, dust-protection walls and airlocks. That is not a luxury – without these measures the client is still cleaning weeks later.

Staircases in occupied buildings

There, work is done in sections, one side always remains passable, handrails last. Residents must be able to get through at all times, including prams and rollators. Working hours on weekdays, notice in the staircase two weeks in advance.

Process

1 · Inspection and measurementCheck the substrate, test for distemper, document moisture and cracks, measure wall and ceiling areas. This determines the price – not the size of the apartment.
2 · ProtectionCover floors, move furniture to the middle of the room and wrap it, mask doors and windows, dust-protection wall to the rest of the living area.
3 · PreparationRemove old wallpaper and distemper, reinforce cracks, close holes, fill and sand. The longest part of the work.
4 · PrimingDeep primer on absorbent substrates, blocking or insulating primer on critical spots. Anyone who skips this step sees stains bleed through.
5 · First coatCeilings first, then walls, always wet on wet to avoid lap marks.
6 · Second coatAfter complete drying. With dark or strong colours a third is added – this should be discussed beforehand.
7 · LacqueringDoors, frames, radiators, windows. Last, so that no dust from sanding falls into the fresh lacquer.
8 · AcceptanceJoint inspection in daylight and with grazing light, because only then do lap marks become visible. Coverings are removed only afterwards.

The eight most common mistakes

  • Emulsion paint on distemper. Peels off over large areas after two weeks.
  • Painting without primer. An absorbent substrate takes up the paint unevenly, the result becomes patchy.
  • Painting over water stains. They bleed through – first eliminate the cause, dry, seal.
  • Only filling over moving cracks. Without mesh tape the crack comes back.
  • Cheap paint with poor opacity. Three coats instead of two, more expensive in the end.
  • Lacquering before sanding. Dust in fresh lacquer can no longer be removed.
  • Rolling over stucco. Profiles fill up and the detail is lost – irretrievably.
  • Acceptance under artificial light. Lap marks only show in the grazing light of daylight.

How to check a painting quote

What area has been assumed?Wall and ceiling area in square metres, not apartment size. With a ceiling height of 3.50 m, considerably more area adds up than you would estimate.
What preparatory work is included?Removing wallpaper, washing off distemper, filling, sanding, priming – each item separately. This is where the price difference between two quotes arises.
How many coats? Two is standard. Three for strong colours – anyone who does not clarify this beforehand argues about opacity later.
Which paint, which class?Product, opacity class and wet scrub resistance belong in the quote, not just “high-quality interior paint”.
Are covering and final cleaning included?€180 to €650 that otherwise come as a change order or are left to the client.
Who moves the furniture? This should be stated. If you do it yourself, you save money – if nobody does it, the site stands still.

Who we paint for

Property management companies

Staircases, basements, common areas – in sections in the occupied building, with advance notice and clear escape routes.

Private clients

Apartment after renovation or before moving in. Clear price after measurement, clean site, final cleaning included.

Landlords

Apartment between two tenancies, fast and documented. Photos before and after the work for the handover.

Commercial premises and medical practices

Evenings and weekends so that business does not stop. Low-emission paints with low VOC content.

When you do not need us

If you want to paint a room and have the time, do it yourself – material costs €80 to €200, and with a good substrate it is easily doable. Call us when the substrate is unclear: old distemper, damp patches, cracks, nicotine, stucco. That is where it is decided whether the paint lasts ten years or two. And if a renovation is coming up anyway, the painting belongs at the end of that project, not before it.

Roof coating and exterior painting

Painting the outside of a house is not the same as decorating inside: outside, preparation determines durability, and preparation is the larger part of the work.

ServiceWhat is includedNet price per m²

Timber surfaces, balconies, fencesSanding, priming, glaze or lacquer€24–48/m²
A roof coating is not a roof renovation. Paint on a roof that leaks or has broken tiles neither keeps the water out nor lasts long. We therefore look at the roof before coating and say openly when a coating would only be cosmetic – then the money is better invested in a roof renovation. If the fabric is sound, the coating extends the service life by ten to fifteen years.

We carry out painting and decorating work in all 23 Viennese districts, inside and out, individually or as part of a renovation.

Wallpapering in Vienna: woodchip, non-woven and patterned wallpaper

Wallpaper has never completely disappeared from Viennese apartments. In many period buildings there are still several layers of paper wallpaper under the paint, and in newer apartments woodchip is common because it covers small cracks. The same applies to wallpapering as to any paint job: the result depends on the substrate. Old layers are soaked and stripped, loose spots are filled, absorbent surfaces primed. Only then is the paper hung.

Which wallpaper for what? Woodchip is inexpensive, robust and is painted over; it forgives uneven walls. Non-woven wallpapers can be stripped dry later, tear less with settlement cracks and are a good base for repainting later. Patterned and designer wallpapers need a very flat substrate and precise pattern matching, otherwise every joint shows. As net guide values from our price table: woodchip €14 to €26/m² including painting, non-woven or patterned wallpaper €18 to €38/m² excluding material, removing old wallpaper €6 to €14/m².

Repairing the wall: when paint alone is not enough

Hollow-sounding plaster, flaking around sockets, fine crazing over the whole surface – a new coat of paint does not help here. The wall needs repair first. Small damage is closed with filler. With crazing, a reinforcing mesh is embedded and skimmed over so that the cracks do not come through again after one winter. Where the interior plaster is hollow over large areas, it has to be knocked off and reapplied.

In period buildings the choice of material is important. Lime plasters on brick masonry are not compatible with dense gypsum fillers in thick layers; this can lead to flaking. We handle smaller plaster repairs as part of the painting work, larger re-plastering via authorised partner companies. If the cause is moisture, damp-proofing comes first, otherwise the new plaster is damaged again in a short time – more on this under wall damp-proofing.

Sponge techniques and Stucco Veneziano in Viennese period buildings

Decorative surfaces are in demand above all in period apartments, for example in the Innere Stadt or in Landstraße, where high rooms, stucco and double doors provide the setting. A colour sponging technique is the lighter option: a glazing paint is applied over a base colour with a sponge, cloth or brush to create a lively, cloudy surface. It is cheaper than trowel techniques but requires a steady hand so that no lap marks are visible.

Stucco Veneziano goes further: several thin layers of lime filler are smoothed, polished and waxed. The effect is elegant, but the surface is only as good as the substrate beneath it. With old walls with cracks, the wall is therefore repaired first and then filled. For bathrooms with splash water, other systems are more suitable, which we describe on the page on bathroom renovation.

Stucco Veneziano in Viennese apartments: what the building dictates for the technique

Whether a Venetian trowel technique succeeds is decided less by the district than by the wall beneath. Nevertheless, the districts shape which walls we encounter and therefore how much preparation is needed. A lime filler in wafer-thin layers forgives no unevenness: every dent, every hairline crack and every old paint residue shows after polishing. That is why every job begins by tapping and checking the plaster and with a sample area on which you approve the colour shade and degree of gloss.

Gründerzeit: Landstraße and Wieden

Anyone who wants Stucco Veneziano for an apartment in 1030 Vienna usually has a Gründerzeit building with rooms over three metres high and lime plaster, often painted over with distemper or emulsion. Before the trowel layers go on, this old paint has to come off, otherwise the lime will not adhere. It is similar in Wieden, the 4th district (1040): here there are often apartments with stucco ceilings whose edges are masked cleanly when working on the wall. The ceiling height requires a mobile scaffold, because a surface must be trowelled without interruption, otherwise lap marks remain visible.

Villas and interwar buildings: Hietzing and the 19th district

In Hietzing, i.e. 1130 Vienna, and in the 19th district with Grinzing, Sievering and the Cottage quarter (1190), we tend to work in villas, cottage houses and renovated interwar buildings. There the walls have often already been repaired with gypsum plaster or plasterboard. Lime filler only adheres to these with a suitable primer, and on plasterboard we recommend full-surface filling beforehand so that the board joints do not show through. In large living rooms with window fronts, grazing light falls flat across the wall – that is exactly where the quality of the smoothing is most visible, which is why we create the sample area in daylight.

Where the technique makes sense and where it does not

Lime filler is vapour-permeable and slightly alkaline, which inhibits mould and makes the surface pleasant for living rooms, hallways and staircases in detached houses. In a shower without additional protection, on the other hand, it is out of place, because standing water attacks the wax layer. Behind the cooker and sink, a soap or wax seal is usually sufficient, refreshed after a few years. Small knocks from the vacuum cleaner or scratches from furniture can be repaired, but a repaired spot often remains slightly visible with a high gloss. For heavily used surfaces we therefore recommend a more matt finish.

On timing: each layer of lime needs several hours to a day to set, and longer with high humidity in autumn. A wall in a period room is therefore rarely finished in one day; with preparation, trowel passes, polishing and waxing it takes three to five working days. During this time the room should not be heated strongly or filled with furniture, so that each layer dries evenly and no stains form.

The prices from our table above apply as net guide values; substrate preparation is added depending on condition. If the old plaster is hollow or damp, masonry repair is needed first. Anyone renewing the entire apartment at once will find the process under Old-Building Renovation.

Frequently asked questions about painting work in Vienna

What does painting work in Vienna cost?
€12 to €28 per square metre of wall area. Simple coat on a good substrate €12–18/m², with filling and preparation €18–28/m². A 70 m² apartment with around 200 m² of wall and ceiling area costs €2,400 to €5,600 net.
What does it cost to paint a 60 m² apartment?
With around 170 m² of wall and ceiling area, €2,000 to €4,800 net, depending on the substrate. If stucco, doors and radiators are added, it is €4,000 to €7,000.
How do you calculate the wall area?
Perimeter of the room times ceiling height, plus ceiling area, minus windows and doors. For a 20 m² room with a height of 3.50 m that is around 80 m² of wall plus 20 m² of ceiling – considerably more than the apartment size suggests.
What does a painter cost per hour?
€48 to €68 net for a skilled worker, €38 to €52 for a labourer. However, painting work is usually charged per square metre, because that is easier to calculate for both sides. Hourly rates apply to time-and-materials work and are stated in the quote.
Why are some quotes so much cheaper?
Usually the preparatory work is missing. A price below €12/m² means: rolling over once, without filling, without priming, without covering. With a good substrate that works; with period-building walls it does not.
How long does it take to paint an apartment?
For 70 m² with a normal substrate 3 to 5 working days, with extensive preparation 6 to 10 days. The limiting factor is the drying time between filling, priming and the coats.
Can I stay in the apartment during the work?
For individual rooms yes, for an entire apartment it is difficult – furniture stands in the middle of the room, floors are covered. Modern paints are low-emission, and the smell disappears in one to two days.
What is distemper and why is it a problem?
A historic paint, common in Viennese period buildings until the 1960s. It is water-soluble: modern emulsion paint dissolves it and peels off together with the substrate. Distemper must be washed off, €8 to €18/m².
How do I recognise distemper?
Wipe an inconspicuous spot with a damp sponge. If paint comes off and the sponge becomes coloured, it is distemper. This test takes thirty seconds and decides several hundred euros.
Does old wallpaper have to come off?
Almost always, especially with several layers on top of each other. Painting over only works with a single, well-adhering woodchip. Removal costs €6 to €14/m² and is the basis for everything else.
What to do about water stains on the ceiling?
First eliminate the cause – leaking roof, burst pipe, condensation – then let it dry completely, then seal with insulating primer. Anyone who paints over it will see the stain again in four weeks.
What helps against nicotine discolouration?
Only an insulating primer, €8 to €18/m². Otherwise nicotine bleeds through any top coat, even through three coats. The surfaces are washed beforehand, otherwise even the blocking primer will not adhere.
What to do about mould on the wall?
Clarify the cause before painting. Affected areas are removed, the surface is disinfected and treated with blocking primer, €25 to €70/m². Anti-mould paint alone only conceals – for larger infestations see Mould Remediation Vienna.
Which paint for allergy sufferers?
Silicate or lime paints without preservatives and with very low VOC content. They are mineral, highly alkaline and therefore mould-inhibiting without chemical additives. Look for the corresponding eco-labels.
What does VOC content mean?
Volatile organic compounds that evaporate from the paint. The lower, the less odour. Limit values are prescribed in the EU; good interior paints are well below them. For children’s rooms and medical practices this is a sensible criterion.
What do opacity and wet scrub classes mean?
Opacity 1 to 4, where 1 covers best – class 1 needs two coats, class 3 three. Wet scrub 1 to 5, where 1 is scrub-resistant. For living spaces class 2 to 3, for staircases and kitchens class 1 to 2.
Silicate paint or emulsion paint?
In period buildings on mineral plaster, silicate: it silicifies with the substrate, is vapour-permeable and mould-inhibiting. Emulsion is cheaper and perfectly fine on modern substrates. On period-building walls exposed to moisture, it is the worse choice.
How long does an interior paint job last?
With professional execution 8 to 12 years in living spaces, 5 to 8 years in heavily used areas such as staircases or kitchens. The substrate is decisive, not the paint brand.
How many coats are needed?
Two for normal colours with good opacity. For strong colours – red, dark blue, intense yellow – three, sometimes with a tinted primer. This should be discussed before choosing the colour, because it affects the price.
What is the difference between Q3 and Q4?
Q3 is filled and sanded over the entire surface, for satin paints. Q4 is the highest level, for gloss paints and rooms with grazing light through large windows. Surcharge €8 to €16/m² for Q3, €16 to €28 for Q4.
What does a staircase cost?
€22 to €45/m² of wall area. The surcharge compared with an apartment arises from scaffolding over the flight of stairs, height surcharges, barriers and working around the residents. A four-storey Gründerzeit staircase costs €6,000 to €14,000.
Does the staircase remain passable during the work?
Yes, always. Work is done in sections, one side remains free, handrails are painted last. Notice in the building two weeks in advance with a schedule and contact person.
What does painting a facade cost?
€18 to €38/m² plus scaffolding at €12 to €22 per m² per month. Important: tap-test beforehand. Paint on hollow render lasts two to three years – then a facade renovation is due instead of a paint job.
Is the stucco painted too?
Yes, but not with a roller. Profiles are traced with a brush and edges cut in, €18 to €45 per linear metre. Stucco painted over many times can be exposed – then the detail comes back that had disappeared under twenty layers.
Can lost stucco be replaced?
Yes, by casting existing profiles: silicone mould, cast part, setting, blending in – €90 to €260 per linear metre. Prefabricated parts from a catalogue never fit exactly and remain visible.
What does it cost to paint doors?
€120 to €320 per door leaf including frame, depending on whether it has to be sanded, filled or stripped. Old layers of oil paint make the difference between the lower and upper end of the range.
Can radiators be painted?
Yes: derusting, anti-rust primer, radiator paint, €85 to €190 each. With old column radiators the effort is higher, because the work is done between the sections. Painting is done when cold.
What does it cost to paint box-type windows?
€140 to €420 per window. A box-type window has two sash levels, reveals and often numerous old layers of paint. If it has to be stripped, the price is at the upper end.
What does wallpapering cost?
Woodchip €14 to €26/m² including painting, non-woven or patterned wallpaper €18 to €38/m² excluding material. Pattern-matched designs cost more because there is more waste.
What is a trowel technique?
A collective term for decorative surfaces applied with a trowel: lime plaster look €60–140/m², Stucco Veneziano €120–260/m², concrete look €90–200/m². All need a flawless substrate.
What is Stucco Veneziano?
A Venetian lime trowel technique: three to five wafer-thin layers, smoothed and waxed, with depth and a silky sheen. €120 to €260/m², demanding craftsmanship. Usually as an accent wall, rarely in the entire room.
Does the concrete look work in the bathroom too?
Yes, with microcement and a suitable seal. The prerequisite is proper waterproofing underneath – the surface alone is not watertight. Without waterproofing under ÖNORM B 3407 it is damage waiting to happen.
Does the furniture have to go?
Not necessarily. It is placed in the middle of the room and wrapped. This should be stated in the quote: if you move it yourself, you save money – if nobody does it, the site stands still.
How much dust is produced?
Considerable when sanding. We work with extraction directly at the sander, dust-protection walls and airlocks to the rest of the living area. Without these measures, you will still find dust weeks later.
Is final cleaning included?
Yes, site cleaning is included in the fixed price: removing coverings, sweeping and damp-mopping floors, removing tape residue. A complete cleaning of the apartment beyond that is a separate service.
Can painting be done in winter?
Inside all year round; the apartment must be heated and ventilated. Facade painting needs temperatures above 5 °C and must not be carried out in blazing sun or frost.
Do you also work evenings and weekends?
For commercial premises, medical practices and restaurants yes, so that business does not stop. This involves a surcharge and is shown in the quote. In residential buildings we keep to the usual hours.
When is the work accepted?
Together in daylight and with grazing light – only then do lap marks become visible. Coverings stay in place until acceptance. Defects are named specifically and recorded, not with a blanket reservation.
What if I do not like the colour?
That is why we apply sample areas beforehand – at least half a square metre, on the wall, assessed in daylight. A colour looks completely different on the fan deck than on 20 m² of wall. Changing afterwards means two additional coats.
Painting work: what warranty is there?
Three years under § 933 ABGB on the workmanship. Not covered is damage caused by moisture from the building if the cause was known and not remedied – that is why we document the substrate before starting.
Do you also do individual rooms?
Yes, from about 25 m² of wall area this makes economic sense. Below that, travel, covering and setting up weigh disproportionately on the price – we tell you that openly instead of writing an expensive quote.
Do you also paint after a renovation?
That is the norm: painting comes at the end of every renovation, after drywall, screed and tiles. If we are carrying out the renovation anyway, the painting is part of the fixed price and not a separate site.
Painting work: who carries out the work?
Painters and decorators are a regulated craft under § 94 no. 47 GewO. The work is carried out within the scope of our trade licences or via authorised partner companies – not subcontracted onwards. For stucco supplementation and restoration work we work with specialised companies named in the quote.
Painting work: is there a fixed price?
Yes, after measurement and substrate inspection, as a bill of quantities with areas, preparatory work, number of coats, product details and explicit exclusions. Without an inspection any figure would be a guess – especially in period buildings.
Painting work: how quickly do I get a quote?
Inspection within five working days throughout Vienna, quote within two working days after that. For individual rooms it can be faster with good photos and measurements.
Are there subsidies for painting work?
Not for pure painting work. As part of a subsidised renovation – base renovation via wohnfonds_wien or thermal renovation – it is partly eligible as part of the overall measure. The application must be submitted before construction starts.
Can I buy the paint myself?
Yes. Then the quote states "material provided by client" and you save the material share. It is important that the quantity and product are agreed beforehand – if a bucket runs out in the middle of a surface, a visible lap mark appears because the next batch differs slightly.
Woodchip or non-woven wallpaper – which is the better choice?
Woodchip is cheaper and conceals uneven walls, but is difficult to remove. Non-woven is more dimensionally stable, bridges small cracks better and can be stripped dry later. For rented apartments and frequent redecorating non-woven is usually more practical; for uneven period-building walls woodchip is often the simpler solution.
What helps against cracks that reappear after painting?
A reinforcing mesh embedded in filler. It distributes the stresses so that fine crazing does not come through the new paint. With wide cracks, it should be clarified beforehand whether movement in the masonry or ceiling is the cause. Then a structural solution is needed first, and only then the paint.
What is the difference between a sponge technique and Stucco Veneziano?
A sponge technique is a glazing paint over a base colour, applied with a sponge or cloth – a decorative layer of paint. Stucco Veneziano consists of several layers of lime filler that are polished and waxed, which gives it depth and sheen. Sponging is faster and cheaper; Stucco is more elaborate and more durable.
