Screed laying Vienna the floor on which everything else stands.

Screed laying Vienna: from the building contractor that does the work — not from an agent.

Screed laying Vienna: laying screed in Vienna costs 45 to 80 euros per square metre net, including insulation. Cement screed €45–65/m², flowing screed €55–80/m², dry screed €60–95/m². On top of that comes the drying time: cement screed needs four to six weeks until it is ready for flooring, anhydrite three to four, dry screed can be walked on the next day.

Laying screed in Vienna costs €45 to €80 per square metre net, including insulation, edge insulation strips and screeding off. Cement screed is €45–65/m², anhydrite flowing screed €55–80/m², dry screed €60–95/m². For 80 m² of living space that is €3,600 to €6,400. What matters for the construction schedule is not the pouring — that takes one day — but the drying until the screed is ready for flooring: 4 to 6 weeks for cement screed, 3 to 4 for anhydrite, none for dry screed.

If the issue is not a new screed in a residential building but broken areas in a commercial or warehouse floor, the route is structural repair: Industrial floor renovation.

Which screed for what

The choice determines construction time, build-up height, weight and suitability for wet rooms. There is no best screed, only the right one. Before the floor covering is laid, the CM test applies as proof in every case – with moisture in a new building or after damage, accompanying building drying helps.

Cement screed CT

The standard. Moisture-resistant, compression-resistant, inexpensive. Drawback: long drying, 4 to 6 weeks until ready for flooring, and it shrinks as it dries – hence movement joints. €45–65/m².

Anhydrite flowing screed CA

Self-levelling, therefore very flat and ideal for underfloor heating because it completely encloses the pipe. Not moisture-resistant; in a bathroom only with waterproofing on top. €55–80/m².

Dry screed

Gypsum fibre or wood-based boards, can be walked on immediately, no water in the building. The solution for limited build-up height and on timber beam ceilings, because it is light. €60–95/m².

Mastic asphalt screed AS

Laid hot, can be loaded immediately, no water. Expensive and laborious to deliver, rare in residential construction, sometimes the only solution in listed buildings and under deadlines.

The build-up, layer by layer

Check and prepare the bare slabSwept clean, load-bearing, dry. Remove loose parts, apply primer. Record levels with a laser – in old buildings they often deviate by 3 to 6 cm.
LevellingA bound fill evens out unevenness and accommodates pipes and cables. It is compacted, not just spread.
Vapour barrierAbove soil, garages and unheated basements. Laid with overlaps and turned up at the edges.
InsulationImpact sound insulation is mandatory in residential buildings, thermal insulation above unheated rooms. Laid with tight joints, not just butted.
Edge insulation stripsAll round, at every rising building component, 8 to 10 mm. The screed must not touch the wall, otherwise impact sound travels straight into the structure.
Placing the screedIn one operation per room, screeded off and smoothed. With flowing screed, additionally de-aerated with a dapple bar.
JointsMovement joints from about 40 m² of area, with aspect ratios over 2:1 and in every door opening. With underfloor heating, according to the heating circuits.
CuringProtect from draughts and sun for the first days, do not ventilate too early. Screed that dries too fast cracks.
Measuring readiness for flooringCM test at several points, with a report. Only then does the floor covering go down.

Drying and readiness for flooring: the point where construction schedules fail

Placing screed takes one day. Drying takes weeks. Anyone who does not reflect this difference in the construction schedule produces either a delay or damage.

The rule of thumb and why it is dangerous

A common rule is: one centimetre per week up to 4 cm, considerably longer after that. That is true under good conditions – 20 °C, 50 % humidity, ventilated. In a Viennese old-building apartment in November without heating it is not. That is why the rule is: measure, don't calculate.

CM test

The calcium carbide method is the recognised procedure in Austria. A sample is taken from the lower half of the screed, crushed and sealed with calcium carbide in a pressure vessel; the resulting gas pressure shows the residual moisture. Measurements are taken at at least one point per room or per 200 m². You receive the report with date, measuring point and value – that is the basis to which floor layers and tilers refer.

Electronic meters that are only held against the surface are not sufficient for readiness for flooring. They show surface moisture, not the core.

What happens if flooring is laid too early

  • Parquet absorbs the residual moisture, swells and cups. In the worst case the bond comes loose.
  • Vinyl and design flooring are vapour-tight. The moisture builds up underneath, the adhesive saponifies, it smells.
  • Tiles crack because the screed underneath is still shrinking.
  • Carpet goes mouldy, mould forms in the backing.

In these cases the warranty lies with the floor layer who laid without a measurement report. For the client it still means: covering out, dry the screed, new covering. Four to eight weeks' delay and double the cost.

Screed and underfloor heating

With underfloor heating, the screed is not just a substrate but part of the heating system. It transfers the heat from the pipe into the room.

  • Cover at least 45 mm above the pipe with cement screed, 40 mm with anhydrite. Less means striping: you can feel the pipes in the floor.
  • Anhydrite has the advantage because, as a flowing screed, it completely encloses the pipe. With cement screed, air pockets remain under the pipe more easily.
  • Functional heating is mandatory, not optional. Under the ÖNORM, the screed is heated up in stages and cooled down again, every step recorded. Without a heating-up report, no floor layer accepts the warranty.
  • Measure readiness for flooring despite heating. Functional heating proves that the system works, not that the screed is dry. Both are necessary.
  • Joints according to heating circuits: every heating circuit expands differently. Movement joints follow the circuit layout, not the floor plan.
  • Retrofit milling is possible: grooves are milled into an existing screed and heating pipes laid in. €90–160/m², saves build-up height, responds quickly – but only with a sufficiently thick, crack-free existing screed.

Screed in Vienna's old buildings

Timber beam ceilings do not carry everything

A typical Gründerzeit ceiling carries 150 to 250 kg/m². A 70 mm cement screed alone weighs around 140 kg/m². Add furniture, people, screed insulation. That is why in old buildings dry screed is often the only permissible solution: 25 to 50 kg/m² instead of 140. For larger areas, the load-bearing capacity must be assessed by a structural engineer – via a licensed partner company.

The old sub-floor

Under the parquet in a Gründerzeit building there is usually a sub-floor on sleepers, and below it a fill of sand, slag or rubble. This fill provides sound insulation and load distribution at the same time. Anyone who removes it has to replace it – usually with bound expanded glass fill, which is lighter and insulates similarly.

Crooked ceilings

Level differences of 3 to 6 cm over six metres are normal. That determines the screed thickness: it is based on the highest point, so that the minimum thickness is maintained everywhere. A levelling survey before the quote is prepared prevents the nasty surprise that 11 cm instead of 7 cm is needed in one corner.

Moisture from below

On the ground floor and in the souterrain, moisture comes from the soil. Without a vapour barrier or waterproofing it migrates into screed and floor covering. Where rising damp is visible in the masonry, wall damp-proofing must be done first, then the floor.

Noise and neighbours

Demolishing the old screed is the loudest work in an apartment renovation. In Vienna it is permitted on working days from 7 am to 8 pm, but it is announced anyway. The rubble goes down the rubble chute into the skip, which needs a parking lane permit from the MA 46.

The ten mistakes we find most often

  • No edge insulation strip or cut off too early. The screed touches the wall, impact sound travels unhindered into the neighbouring room.
  • Covered without a CM test. The most common reason for damage to parquet and vinyl.
  • Missing movement joints. With 90 m² of continuous screed without a joint, cracks form that show through the covering.
  • Too little cover above heating pipes. You can feel the pipes, and the screed cracks along the lines.
  • Anhydrite in the bathroom without waterproofing. Calcium sulphate is not water-resistant; when soaked it loses its strength.
  • Dried too quickly. Draughts and construction heating in the first days lead to shrinkage cracks.
  • Insulation butted instead of tight-jointed. Screed runs through the joints and forms sound bridges.
  • Placed on a dirty bare slab. There is no bond, hollow spots form that sound hollow when walked on.
  • Screed thickness measured at the lowest point. Then it is too thin elsewhere and breaks under load.
  • No heating-up report. The floor layer will not lay or will not accept the warranty – rightly so.

How to check a screed quote

Which type of screed and which strength class?“Laying screed” is not a description. The designation belongs in it, for example CT-C25-F4: cement screed, 25 N/mm² compressive strength, 4 N/mm² flexural strength.
How thick, and measured where? The thickness applies above the highest point of the slab. With crooked old-building ceilings this makes several centimetres of difference in quantity.
Is the insulation included, and which one?Impact sound, thermal insulation, thickness. That is €15 to €30 per m², which is often missing.
Is demolition of the old screed included?€18 to €38/m² including disposal – for 80 m² over €2,000 that would otherwise come as an extra.
Are the CM test and report included?Without a test there is no floor ready for covering and no clean handover to the floor layer.
With underfloor heating: is functional heating included? With a heating-up report. €280 to €650 as a lump sum.
How long until ready for flooring? The figure belongs in the construction schedule, not in a phone call. It decides the move-in date.
Is there a line “not included”?Skim coat, floor covering, construction heating, skirting boards – whatever is missing must be named.

Standards we work to

Set of rulesWhat it is about
ÖNORM B 2232Screed work, contract standard – execution, measurement, invoicing
ÖNORM EN 13813Screed material, designation and strength classes such as CT-C25-F4
ÖNORM B 3732Screeds, planning and execution, thicknesses and build-ups
ÖNORM EN 1264Underfloor heating, functional heating and heating-up report
ÖNORM B 8115Sound insulation in building construction, impact sound requirements
ÖNORM DIN 18202Flatness tolerances of the finished screed surface
ÖNORM B 2110Contract standard – quote, acceptance, deadlines, warranty

The designation of the screed is in our quote, so that it is clear what is being installed. “CT-C25-F4, 70 mm on insulation” can be checked, “screed according to the state of the art” cannot.

Screed: cost per m² incl. installation – what is in the price per square metre

Anyone searching for the price “incl. installation” wants to know which figure will really be on the invoice in the end. A price per square metre for placed screed is made up of four components: the material (cement-sand mix or calcium sulphate ready mix), the crew's working time for placing and screeding off, the machine – mixing pump or silo with hose line – and the journey including setting up and dismantling. In an 80 m² apartment, the fixed share for pump and journey is spread over many square metres. With 15 m² of bathroom and hallway, on the other hand, it carries full weight, which is why small areas per square metre are often noticeably above the table values.

The range of €45 to €80/m² (net reference values) for cement or flowing screed on insulation applies to usual apartment sizes and includes edge insulation strips and installation. Not included are demolition of the old floor, a levelling fill, functional heating and the skim coat before the covering. So always clarify whether “incl. installation” means only placing or the entire build-up until ready for flooring.

In short: the smaller the area and the more difficult the access, the higher the price per square metre – the material is rarely the reason.

What a square metre of screed costs in Austria – and why Vienna is often above it

Nationwide average prices from comparison portals rarely fit a Viennese building site. The reason is not the material and hardly the hourly rate, but the logistics. At a detached house in the Weinviertel, the mixer drives right up to the door, the area is done in one go, the hose is short. At a Gründerzeit building, the pump stands in the lane, often only with a temporary no-stopping zone that has to be applied for at the MA 46 in good time. The line runs through the entrance, courtyard and stairwell up to the fourth floor, and the stairwell has to be protected against it.

Added to this are noise considerations in an occupied building and ceilings that cannot take every weight. When you compare prices, ask about the area, build-up and access behind a figure. An “Austria price” without this information says little about your apartment.

Flowing screed: when the higher price pays off

At €55 to €80/m² net, anhydrite flowing screed costs more than classic cement screed. It pays off where its properties save money elsewhere: it flows closely around the pipes of underfloor heating, is placed quickly and lies so flat that the skim coat before vinyl or parquet is often thinner. However, calcium sulphate cannot tolerate permanent wetness – in the bathroom it needs careful waterproofing, and before the covering the surface must be sanded.

Screed repair: what prices depend on

Not every damaged floor has to come out. What matters is the damage pattern: individual shrinkage cracks can be resin-filled and stapled, smaller hollow spots injected through drill holes, sunken edge areas partly repaired. For such repairs there is no serious lump-sum price per square metre – they are invoiced by running metre of crack or number of drill holes, and only after the entire area has been tapped. If a large part sounds hollow, the patchwork quickly becomes more expensive than a new screed. Then the new build-up comes with demolition at €18 to €38/m² net plus disposal. If the substrate is damp, no repair helps before the cause has been eliminated – see Building drying in Vienna.

Screed layer in Vienna or a general contractor?

For an empty new-build area, a good screed layer is enough. In a renovation, on the other hand, the order of the trades decides the result. Before the screed, electrical and water pipes must lie on the bare slab and be covered with insulation, the underfloor heating needs its pressure test, and the floor layer only takes over when the residual moisture has been proven. If there is nobody to accept these handovers, the parties later blame each other. We plan the sequence, coordinate the dates with the installer for the underfloor heating and hand over a substrate ready for covering to the tiler or floor layer.

Laying screed in Korneuburg and the northern area around Vienna

We also take on screed work in the area around Vienna; for us, Korneuburg belongs to the near zone with daily travel. The sites there usually look different from a Gründerzeit building: detached houses, extensions and semi-detached houses with access right up to the door. The mixer or silo stands on the client's own land, the hose line stays short, and large areas can be placed in one operation. There is almost always underfloor heating in the build-up, often with a heat pump. Then what counts is tight enclosure of the pipes, the right cover and recorded heating-up before the covering – more on this under underfloor heating.

In older building stock, for example in estate houses near the Danube, moisture from below must be clarified first before rebuilding. For the journey to Korneuburg we charge a small surcharge; Stockerau is one zone further. Which other places we serve is on the page on the building contractor in Lower Austria.

What does 1 m² of screed cost in Austria – from unit price to budget

A single price per square metre only helps once it is clear which components have to be added. The following breakdown uses the net reference values on this page and shows how the total for a renovation is made up.

ComponentNet reference value per m²
Demolish old floor including screed18–38 €
Cement screed on insulation45–65 €
Anhydrite flowing screed55–80 €
Dry screed for timber ceilings60–95 €

Worked example: in a 60 m² apartment with demolition and new cement screed, the result is €63 to €103 per square metre, so around €3,800 to €6,200 net in total. Skim coat, covering and disposal come on top. Anyone who only compares the screed price therefore often compares different services.

Frequently asked questions about screed in Vienna

How much does laying screed cost in Vienna?
€45 to €80 per square metre net, including insulation, edge insulation strips and screeding off. Cement screed €45–65/m², anhydrite flowing screed €55–80/m², dry screed €60–95/m². Not included are demolition of the old screed and the floor covering.
How much does it cost to lay 100 m² of screed?
€4,500 to €8,000 net for the screed itself. If demolition of the old screed is added, it is €1,800 to €3,800 more. With underfloor heating, allow an additional €280 to €650 for functional heating and the report.
What does screed cost per m² including material?
The €45 to €80/m² quoted are complete prices including material, installation, insulation and edge insulation strips. Pure material costs are €12 to €22/m² – the rest is labour, travel, equipment and disposal.
How long does screed need to dry?
Until ready for flooring, 4 to 6 weeks for cement screed, 3 to 4 weeks for anhydrite. It can be walked on after 2 to 3 days and loaded after about a week. Dry screed can be covered immediately, rapid screed after 3 to 7 days.
Is the rule “one centimetre per week” correct?
Only under good conditions: 20 °C, 50 % humidity, ventilated. In an unheated old-building apartment in November it is not. And from 4 cm thickness, drying slows down disproportionately. Rely on the measurement, not on the rule of thumb.
What does “ready for flooring” mean?
The state in which the residual moisture is so low that a floor covering can be laid without damage. Limits: cement screed at most 2.0 CM-% without and 1.8 CM-% with underfloor heating, anhydrite 0.5 and 0.3 CM-% respectively.
How is readiness for flooring measured?
With the CM test. A sample from the lower half of the screed is crushed and sealed with calcium carbide in a pressure vessel; the gas pressure shows the residual moisture. At least one measuring point per room or per 200 m². You receive the report with date, location and value.
Is an electronic moisture meter enough?
No. Devices that are only held against the surface show surface moisture, not the residual moisture in the core. In Austria, the CM test is the recognised method for readiness for flooring.
What happens if flooring is laid too early?
Parquet swells and cups, with vinyl the moisture builds up under the vapour-tight covering and the adhesive saponifies, tiles crack, carpet goes mouldy. The consequence is covering out, drying, new covering – four to eight weeks' delay and double the cost.
Can drying be accelerated?
Yes, with construction heating and building dryers, €180 to €420 per week. But not in the first days: draughts and heat directly after placing lead to shrinkage cracks. Drying makes sense from the second week, in a controlled way.
Which screed is the best?
There is no best, only the right one. Cement screed in the bathroom and wherever moisture can occur. Anhydrite with underfloor heating because it encloses the pipes better. Dry screed on timber beam ceilings and with limited build-up height.
What is the difference between cement and anhydrite screed?
Cement screed is moisture-resistant, shrinks as it dries and takes longer. Anhydrite is self-levelling, therefore very flat, dries faster and hardly shrinks – but is not water-resistant and is only permissible in a bathroom under waterproofing.
Which screed for underfloor heating?
Anhydrite flowing screed, if the moisture load allows it: it completely encloses the pipe and transfers heat better. In the bathroom or in mixed rooms, cement screed with at least 45 mm cover above the pipe.
What does CT-C25-F4 mean?
CT stands for cement screed (cementitious), C25 for 25 N/mm² compressive strength, F4 for 4 N/mm² flexural strength. That is the usual class in residential construction. CA would be calcium sulphate, i.e. anhydrite. The designation belongs in the quote.
How thick does the screed have to be?
On insulation at least 45 mm for cement screed, 40 mm for anhydrite. Above heating pipes, 45 mm cover. Bonded to the bare slab, 30 to 50 mm is enough. The thickness applies above the highest point of the slab – with crooked old-building ceilings, that is the decisive point.
Why is screed thickness an issue in old buildings?
Because Gründerzeit ceilings have level differences of 3 to 6 cm over six metres. The minimum thickness must be maintained everywhere, so the build-up is based on the highest point. Without a levelling survey before the quote, the quantity becomes a surprise.
What is the edge insulation strip for?
It separates the screed from all rising building components so that it can move as it dries and no impact sound travels into the wall. 8 to 10 mm, all round, without exception. It is only cut off after the covering has been laid.
Do I need movement joints?
From about 40 m² of continuous area, with aspect ratios over 2:1, in every door opening and with underfloor heating along the heating circuits. Without joints, cracks form that show through the covering.
What to do if the screed has cracks?
Hairline cracks without offset are resin-filled and stapled; that is routine. Cracks with offset or areas that sound hollow indicate a build-up defect – there the screed should be replaced section by section.
What is a hollow spot and why is it bad?
An area without a bond to the substrate, recognisable by the hollow sound when tapped. Under load, the screed breaks there. The cause is usually a dirty or unprimed bare slab with bonded screed.
Can underfloor heating be milled in afterwards?
Yes, grooves are milled into an existing, sufficiently thick and crack-free screed and heating pipes laid in: €90 to €160/m². This saves build-up height and responds quickly because little mass is heated. The screed thickness is checked beforehand.
What is functional heating?
The prescribed stepwise heating-up and cooling-down of the underfloor heating under ÖNORM EN 1264, every step recorded. It proves that the system works and brings the screed into its operating state. Without a heating-up report, no floor layer accepts the warranty.
Does functional heating replace the CM test?
No. Functional heating shows that the system works, not that the screed is dry. Both are necessary, and both are recorded.
What is dry screed?
Boards made of gypsum fibre or wood-based material that are glued and screwed on a fill. No water in the building, can be walked on and covered immediately, low weight. The solution for timber beam ceilings and limited build-up height.
Why dry screed in old buildings?
Because of the weight. A 70 mm cement screed weighs around 140 kg/m², a dry screed build-up 25 to 50 kg/m². Gründerzeit ceilings carry 150 to 250 kg/m² in total – including furniture and people. With wet screed, the calculation often does not work out.
What lies under the old parquet in a Gründerzeit building?
Usually a sub-floor on sleepers, with a fill of sand, slag or rubble below. This fill provides sound insulation and load distribution at the same time. If it is removed, it has to be replaced – today usually with bound expanded glass fill.
What does it cost to remove old screed?
€18 to €38 per m² including demolition, removal and disposal. For 80 m² that is €1,440 to €3,040. In old buildings, removal of the old fill is often added and calculated separately.
Does the old screed always have to come out?
No. If it is dry, load-bearing, crack-free and the height fits, it can stay – then it is skim-coated and covered again. That is decided by tapping, moisture measurement and a level survey on site, not on the phone.
What is polished screed?
A screed whose surface is the end result: ground, filled and sealed, without any further covering. €120 to €190/m². It requires very careful workmanship because every mistake remains visible, and it shows cracks and colour differences as a design feature.
What is rapid screed?
Cement screed with admixtures that is ready for flooring after 3 to 7 days instead of weeks. €70 to €110/m². Useful under time pressure, for example when a move-in date is fixed. The dryness is still measured.
What is bonded screed?
Screed applied directly to the bare slab without insulation, with a bonding bridge. 30 to 50 mm, €38 to €60/m². Common in basements, garages and workshops where no impact sound insulation is needed but load capacity is required.
Which screed for basement and garage?
Bonded screed or industrial screed with a hard aggregate layer, €90 to €150/m². With moisture from the soil, waterproofing or a vapour barrier must be installed first, otherwise the moisture migrates through.
Which insulation goes under the screed?
Impact sound insulation is mandatory in residential construction, usually 30 mm. In addition, thermal insulation where there is an unheated room below: EPS or mineral wool, 30 to 60 mm. Both are laid with tight joints so that no sound bridges form.
Do I need a vapour barrier?
Above soil, unheated basements and garages, yes. It prevents moisture from below migrating into screed and covering. It is laid with overlaps and turned up at the edges.
How flat does the screed have to be?
The flatness tolerances under ÖNORM DIN 18202 are decisive. For floors with increased requirements, it is 3 mm over a 1 m measuring length. Flowing screed achieves this by itself; with cement screed it depends on the workmanship.
Does a skim coat have to be applied before the covering?
For vinyl, design flooring and carpet, yes, €8 to €18/m² – these coverings show every unevenness. For tiles and parquet usually not; the laying evens it out there.
Can I tile on the screed?
Yes, as soon as it is ready for flooring. In wet areas, the bonded waterproofing under ÖNORM B 3407 goes on the screed first. With anhydrite in the bathroom, this waterproofing is not optional but a prerequisite.
How long does the laying itself take?
An 80 m² apartment is placed in one day; including preparation it is two to three days. The time factor is not the installation but the drying afterwards.
Can I live in the apartment while it dries?
Walking on it, yes, after two to three days. Living there, rather not: the moisture has to get out, which means ventilating regularly and keeping the temperature even. Furniture and boxes on the area hinder drying and lead to uneven residual moisture.
Will it be noisy?
When the old screed is demolished, yes; that is the loudest work in an apartment renovation, usually one to two days. Placing itself is comparatively quiet. We announce noisy work and work on working days.
How does the screed get to the fourth floor?
Via a hose line from the screed pump on the street. This needs a parking lane permit from the MA 46, which we organise. In narrow lanes, delivery becomes a question of timing – that belongs in the construction schedule.
Does Skyline Bau lay the screed itself?
Yes, within the scope of our trade licences. Regulated trades such as underfloor heating, gas and sanitary engineering or electrics are handled by licensed partner companies named in the quote.
Screed laying: is Skyline Bau a master builder (Baumeister)?

Screed laying: is there a fixed price?
Yes, after measurement and level survey, as a bill of quantities under ÖNORM B 2110 with screed designation, thickness, insulation, quantities and explicit exclusions. Without levelling, the quantity in an old building would be guesswork.
Screed laying: what warranty is there?
3 years under § 933 ABGB (Austrian Civil Code) on the construction work. You receive the CM test report, with underfloor heating the heating-up report, and photos of the build-up before placing – that is the basis if anyone asks questions later.
What is not included in the price?
Floor covering, skirting boards, skim coat for vinyl and carpet, construction heating on winter sites and the underfloor heating itself. This is stated explicitly in the quote under “not included”.
Screed laying: do you also do small areas?
From about 20 m². Below that, travel and equipment costs dominate the price so strongly that a specialised small business is cheaper – we tell you that openly instead of writing an overpriced quote.
Screed laying: how quickly can I get an appointment?
Measurement within five working days, quote within two working days after that. The installation date depends on our workload but is usually two to four weeks away.
Do you lay screed throughout Vienna?
Yes. What matters is access: whether the pump can stand in front of the building or the screed is placed by hand. That affects price and duration.
Why is screed more expensive per square metre for small areas?
Because travel, pump set-up and cleaning the machine cost almost the same whether 15 or 90 m² are placed. In a bathroom or hallway, this fixed block is spread over few square metres. If the small area can be combined with other rooms or a second apartment in the same building, the price per square metre usually drops considerably.
Can a cracked screed be repaired instead of renewed?
Yes, if the cracks are isolated and the screed is otherwise firmly bonded to the substrate. Then the cracks are cut open, resin-filled and secured with staples. However, if a large part of the area sounds hollow when tapped or the substrate is damp, the repair only postpones the problem. In that case, a new build-up is the cheaper solution in the long term.
What information does a screed quote need to be comparable?
Area per room, the desired type of screed, the total build-up height up to the door threshold, whether underfloor heating is planned and which covering is intended. Floor level, lift and the possibility of setting up a pump in front of the building also matter. Photos of the existing floor and, if possible, an opened-up spot help to estimate demolition and levelling realistically.
